Getting a good night's sleep is a must when it comes to your health and well-being!
With 1 in 3 people having mild insomnia, it is fast becoming one of the most common health problems today.
Firstly, what are some negative impacts sleep deprivation has on our body?
Higher Levels of Anxiety: lack of sleep raises the brains anticipatory reactions, raising our anxiety levels
Brain Fog: excessive sleepiness impairs our memory and the ability to think and process information
Disruption of our Circadian Rhythm (Body Clock): leading to poor white blood cell health, which weakens our physical stress response
Unhealthy Cravings: Sleep helps balance the two hormones that help us feel full or hungry, ghrelin and leptin. Lack of sleep causes an imbalance in these two crucial hormones which in turn results in unhealthy cravings.
Not to mention ongoing Insomnia can contribute to a higher risk of Stroke, Hypertension, Heart Disease, Breast Cancer and Diabetes.
Ok, so a good night's sleep is really important, but what can you do if you just can't manage a proper night's rest?
Ahh, Acupuncture. Another amazing benefit of Acupuncture is it can cure Insomnia!
It works by releasing certain chemical reactions that assist your body to literally heal itself. Acupuncture has been shown to increase night time melatonin production, which helps you fall asleep!
Below are two Clinical trials recorded by the World Health Organisation using Acupuncture to treat Insomnia. These trials were conducted with half of the patients being treated using Auricular Ear Acupuncture (test group) and the other half using no acupuncture at all, just Insomnia Medication (control group).
The results are astounding with 59/60 patients receiving Acupuncture returning to normal sleep after only 1 month as opposed to 20/60 patients who used only medication.
In the second trial, sleep improved by an impressive 96.7% of patients receiving Acupuncture as opposed to 35% improvement in those who used medication alone.

Acupuncture also works to relax the body by releasing physical tension, allowing you to rest without anxious tossing and turning. When it comes to sleep issues, it can be hard to shake old habits. Acupuncture can reverse your negative sleep patterns but also nurture the body to adapt to a more healthy sleep routine.
If you would like a simple step to include in your nightly routine that will ensure a good nights sleep, start by gently massaging ‘Yintang’. This Acupuncture point is located in the centre of your eyebrows promotes relaxation and has amazing calming effects.
